  5. “I have aphasia – now what?”...

Our two-day workshop, “I have aphasia – now what?’ will be offered on April 14 & 15 at Westminster Suncoast, 1095 Pinellas Point Drive South, in St. Petersburg. The workshop was presented at last week’s national meeting of professionals who specialize in helping people with aphasia and related communication disorders get back to living.

The Aphasia Access Summit was held March 13-14 in Boston, and the experiences of attendees of the last 3 workshops were shared with other professionals from around the country. The workshop is designed for people with aphasia and their families, and focuses on the use of effective communication strategies. By the end of the two days, family members are better able to adjust their communication so that conversation becomes a more positive and enjoyable experience.

Registration is now open for the next workshop, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14 & 15, from 9:30 to 2:00 pm each day. Registration begins at 9:30 am. A large group session is held from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Following a break, caregivers break off to practice strategies separately from those with aphasia. After a shared lunch during which attendees can chat in a supportive environment, practice continues for each family.
