  5. A Spring Visit to the Florida...

Voices of Hope for Aphasia group members set out on a trip to visit the Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, FL. The Gardens showcase 10 different themed gardens with over 10,000 plants on 182 acres of preserved Florida land.

Upon our arrival to the lovely and peaceful Gardens, we were greeted and taken on a tour of the Herb Garden. In the Herb Garden we learned about the many medicinal, culinary, aromatic and economic herbs of Central Florida. The sister of one of our members, who is a Master Gardener, joined us. She shared her knowledge of the care and maintenance and some fun facts about many of the plants and flowers we saw at the Gardens.

We then broke out into teams to participate in a fun scavenger hunt. Each team had a list of items that they were required to locate, take photos of, and discuss. With this activity our members living with aphasia had an opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences in a fun and supportive setting. We found beautiful butterflies and many different types of flowers in full bloom.

After our scavenger hunt we joined together to have a picnic lunch. After lunch, we shared the pictures we took during our scavenger hunt and voted for the funniest, cutest, and most surprising photos. We all laughed a lot and saw things we had never seen before. It was a great trip!

Voices of Hope for Aphasia schedules weekly outings in the community as an opportunity for our members to talk, laugh, and get back living in our beautiful city of Tampa Bay.
