June is National Aphasia Awareness Month and throughout the month, Voices of Hope for Aphasia will endeavor to increase public education about aphasia and to recognize the MILLIONS of people who are living with or caring for those who live with aphasia.
In the Tampa Bay area alone, there are over 23,000 people living with aphasia, but less than 14% of the population knows what aphasia is. Help us change these statistics!
How can you help?
- Follow us on Facebook and share our awareness posts with your friends! Each week, we will publish educational information, tips, videos, and more.
- Use the word “aphasia“ and let everyone know what it is. Every day, we hear people say things like, “Oh! My uncle had a stroke and had trouble speaking after that, but I didn’t know it was called aphasia.” Without a term associated with the condition, few people know that it is a condition that can be treated and for which resources exist (like us!).
- Share the importance of aphasia groups with your friends, medical professionals, neighbors, community members, and more. Watch our testimonial videos to hear about the impact we have on the families we serve.
- Please consider a donation to Voices of Hope for Aphasia to help us provide more services to more people living with aphasia. We can’t do this without your support. For a donation made during this campaign, you will receive a thank you gift that will help you continue to spread awareness and knowledge!
Your donation is especially important to us today. Like many small businesses and non-profits, COVID-19 has had a huge impact on our organization. Fundraising events have been postponed or canceled, program contributions have decreased, and other funding opportunities have, rightfully, been directed to those on the front lines. Your donation today will help us cover unexpected expenses related to ensuring our members continue to be safe and protected with sanitizing equipment and masks. Your donation can also help us expand our reach and help more people to recover from the isolation caused by aphasia and a global pandemic.
